The David Bowers Awards

The David Bowers Awards was the brain child of The David Bowers, a former broadcast radio personality and programmer.  He wanted to do an Internet radio program that comined music with a chance for listeners to sit with the artists and stars who make the music.  This would also be a chance for the artists to talk directly and casually with their followers.

It was also important that this be a a 'door' to the world for emerging indie artists to get airplay and exposure for their music and talents.

Since there is such and abundance of awards shows for every organization and reason, it was decided that EVERY show should be an awards show.  Guests, as well as listeners, are encouraged to name their awards for for whomever or whatever deserves recognition or a slam.

The David Bowers Awards in its first year is heard by listeners around the world in over 10 different countries.

About

The David Bowers

The David Bowers is a product of a lifetime involvement in music.  From staging shows to entertain his Grandmother at home as little tyke to playing in band and orchestra in high school, marching then instructing drum corps in his home region of upstate NY and, ultimately, a career in broadcast radio that took him from weekend parttime at his local station in Rome,  NY to his final broadcast gig with the then-national-number 1 FM Rocker, Q105 in Tampa, FL!

Following this, he DJ-ed for 4 years in a Pasadena, CA live band/dj club while doing voice work for agencies including his own in Southern California.

With the advent of the Internet and 'webcasting,' he became interested in the medium and the opportunity to present the music and talk with the artists in a way no longer possible on broadcast radio.  For several years he honed his craft, co-hosting on Web-network shows before teaming with co-host Jon Bon Jovial with whom he had worked in Tampa radio,  launching his own show early in 2013.

'The David Bowers Awards' now has listeners as well as guest artists from around the world.  It continues to grow and draw name talent and 'all stars' as well as being a platform for emerging artists to get 'air play' worldwide.

Jon Bon Jovial

Jon got his start in radio in 1972. His first radio gig was at the University of South Florida where he worked for the campus radio station, WUSF-FM.  While working there he also got a job working for WQYK-AM/FM, Tampa Bay's at -the-time premier country station.  This is where he and David Bowers first hooked up.

After graduating from USF with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism in 1974, Jon went to work for WIRK-FM in West Palm Beach, FL where he was consistently number 1 in the ratings for 2 years in his time slot.  From there it was back to Tampa to work for the largest Country Station in the Southeastern United States, WSUN, Sun Country.  Jon had a strong pull with truckers because of the station's massive signal that blanketed 10 states at night.

After Leaving WSUN in 1978, Jon migrated west where he landed a gig as Programming Manager with KIOQ-FM which served California's Owens Valley Quad Cities Metroplex.  In 1982 he went to Reno, NV and managed KBET-AM Radio for 3 years before being hired away by Drake-Chenault Radio Programming and Consulting in Albuquerque, New Mexico to do formatic and sales consultation for

radio stations nationwide.

Jon Got out of radio in 1990.  The business just became too cookie cutter and wasn't at all enjoyable anymore.

Jon and David kept in touch with each other over the years and David finally convinced Jon that they should get together again and create an online radio broadcast.  And that was the beginnings of The David Bowers Awards.  The rest as they say is of little historical significance!!!
